THIS WEEK’S BRIEF
My basement flooded. I filmed anyway.
My basement flooded recently. That’s where I normally shoot my videos, so when it came time to film a new one, I had to set up in my living room.
It looked like I was in a museum. I cringed during the whole edit.
But it reminded me of something worth remembering when you’re making videos for your business: no one cares. Literally, no one cares. You will notice things about your own setup that most viewers won’t. They’re there for what you have to say.
At a minimum, make sure you’re well lit, the audio is clear, and the framing is simple. If people can see you, hear you, and follow your point, you’re in good shape.
Your office doesn’t have to be interesting. The room doesn’t have to look like a studio. You can improve those things over time, but they don’t need to stop you from getting started.
I finished the video and put it out. It’s the first part of a project I’m doing with Andrea, a fitness entrepreneur. In it, I show the questions I asked about her business and how I began figuring out what video could do for her and her business…click the thumbnail to check it out:

If you’re putting off your own video because of the room behind you, take another look at it through a viewer’s eyes. Can they see you? Can they hear you? Are you giving them something useful? Start there.
Have a great week!
